New Home Construction

Tom and Carrie were searching for someone to build a new 4700 sq. ft. cedar log cabin home. Ellen Cashman of Bare Bones Studio, in Ely, MN referred them to Boreal Woodworking.
Due to the size and scope of the project, Tom, Carrie and I agreed it was best to hire a top local design service to put all of our thoughts to blueprints. Through productive meetings we generated a beautiful home that was well positioned with a good view of the lake, yet protected and screened by existing trees from passing boaters. After 3 revisions, we settled on a fantastic layout that met all of Tom and Carrie's objectives. They hired Boreal Woodworking as the general contractor of the project and I managed all aspects of the home construction from start to finish.
This was a 14-month project that started with removal of several dilapidated structures from the property and then proceeded as if it were an undeveloped site. The construction included:
- a new septic
- a drilled well
- a full basement foundation for the house
I hired a landscaper to add the finishing touch to the outside with 30 trees, several flower beds, and stone walkways.
Tom and Carrie also ordered some complementary furniture and built-in cabinets from the workshop at Boreal Woodworking:
- a custom table and benches made of solid pine for informal dining
- a full set of kitchen cabinets
- bathroom vanities
- an entertainment center
- a combination bookcase and window seat
- a living room bookcase
Boreal Woodworking built this new custom home while Tom and Carrie were away from Ely. They returned to Minnesota find just what they had hoped for and more in their new lake home. Finished and ready to move in the furniture - some of which was custom built by Boreal Woodworking!
